  • In 2013, more than 10,000 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes – one death every 51 minutes.

  • During holiday enforcement periods – which take place around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year – rates of alcohol-involved crashes and arrests significantly surge.

It’s understandable that drinking and celebration go hand-in-hand with holiday cheer, and this month is not about changing that. It is about, however, raising awareness, drinking responsibly, and making the decision to never get behind the wheel after drinking. Play it safe by designating a sober driver, catching a cab or using a ride-share service, or simply staying the night at a relatives.

Remember, not only will you keep yourself and others safe, you could very well avoid an arrest and serious penalties. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert for drunk and drugged drivers during the month of December and through the New Year.
